1.1 About the Ridgewood Soccer Association
The Ridgewood Soccer Association (the RSA) was formed in 1988 with its sole purpose being the provision of a recreational soccer program for children resident in the Village of Ridgewood.
Soccer is a game that is enjoyed by millions of people the world over, both as a participant and spectator sport. The game is dynamic, fast-paced and is considered by many to be the ultimate team sport. The RSA board of trustees believes that the game of soccer can provide our children with a healthy, team oriented and personally rewarding athletic experience that yields enduring benefits.
The principle focus of the RSA’s activities is the autumn recreational soccer program that runs for approximately 10 weeks from the weekend after Labor Day through the weekend before Thanksgiving. Since its inception, over 5000 (can we update?) children have participated in the RSA program and annual registrations have increased from 500 in 1990 to over 1400 in 2006
1.2 Guiding Principles
The RSA is dedicated to
- developing our children’s ability to play soccer
- promoting good sportsmanship
- enjoyment for all who wish to participate in our programs
- encouraging community involvement through participation of older children from the Ridgewood, where possible, as clinicians and as referees
As such, the RSA program is a recreational program open to all interested, eligible youth from Ridgewood. Our focus is on fun while playing soccer and developing soccer skills. The RSA recognizes that winning in match play is an important part of the children’s fun and the RSA requires coaches to keep the games close for the enjoyment of all involved. The RSA does not track team records or individual scoring.
Strong family and community relationships are forged through participation of parents in the program as trustees, coaches, team volunteers and, most importantly, as game day supporters.
